Seattle Municipal Court Divorce Records
Divorce proceedings, known legally as the dissolution of marriage in Washington, are complex civil matters. They include the court decisions regarding the distribution of personal property, arrangements for child custody and support, and changes to civil status. The importance of these issues surpasses the authority allowed to municipal courts under RCW 35.20. As a result, divorce cases are not handled in the Seattle Municipal Court.
All family law cases for Seattle residents are handled solely by the King County Superior Court. Accordingly, the Department of Judicial Administration (Superior Court Clerk's Office) keeps records of divorce decrees and related case files.
Typically, final divorce decrees are accessible to the public. However, to safeguard the privacy of parties involved, sensitive information, such as financial details, minors' identities, psychological assessments, and personal identifiers, is often sealed in accordance with local and state regulations. Members of the public can, however, access the Superior Court's KC Script Portal to search for and view public divorce case information and request audio recordings of hearings.
